Holiday Inn Cairo Maadi by IHG

This hotel has a perfect staff for staying awhile in Cairo. The location of the hotel is perfect next to the Nile. A bit traffic at the main road (Corniche), but the Maadi area is good for walks, coffeeshops, food and restaurants. The pool is good, and the staff is taking good care of the guests!

The pool is fantastic, but other than that no real reason to book this hotel, unless you need to stay in the area. The gym closes at 9,00 and this is an issue if you are coming late and want to do some training. The area looks a bit dodgy, so watch out.

The hotel staff were so inconsistent, some wonderful, some needing major work, from 1-5 ratings, balancing at 3. One concierge was so helpful and patient in getting me a taxi, going above and beyond in trying to figure out where Festival City was (just opened at the end of 2013 and apparently no one else had ever asked about it). When asking another for a taxi, I was told to go get my own. This inconsistency was also present in regards to housekeeping. The rooms were kept clean enough in general, that was not an issue but having a small issue with the kettle proved interesting. I called, got an annoyed sounding person on the phone but someone was sent (problem was a vinegar infused kettle). I showed him (had him smell) the problem upon arrival and his way of fixing this was to use glass cleaner. This was a slight concern as it got rid of the vinegar one but I don't normally opt for glass cleaner in my tea either (at least vinegar is natural, sour but natural). The man did not understand my concern, called someone, the man on the phone, was helpful and said they would replace the kettle. Instead the man left and returned with yet another man (one that spoke better English) but did not understand my concern. I didn't understand why this was even still an issue as the previous guy on the phone and admittedly was less patient. I finally got the kettle replaced but no longer desired tea in my room for some reason.
