I rarely leave negative reviews, but my stay at Grand Oasis Palm in Cancun was deeply disappointing and far below what should be expected from an all-inclusive resort.
From the moment we arrived, the experience started on a frustrating and stressful note. The front desk initially could not locate my reservation. After an extended delay, it was discovered that they had entered my last name as my first name in their system. This clerical error caused unnecessary confusion and significantly delayed check-in. After traveling, the last thing guests want is administrative disorganization at arrival. The check-in process overall was chaotic, inefficient, and poorly managed. Staff appeared overwhelmed and unprepared, and there was little communication or sense of urgency. We felt like an inconvenience rather than welcomed guests.
Unfortunately, the room condition made matters worse. On the very first day of our arrival, we had to call housekeeping to change the sheets because they were visibly dirty, including the pillowcases. That is simply unacceptable for any hotel, let alone a resort that markets itself as a relaxing vacation destination.
The physical condition of the room raised even more concerns. The ceiling was visibly damaged, as if someone had attempted to pry into it at some point. The shower drain cover was not properly secured; it was merely placed loosely on top of the drain. Each day after housekeeping cleaned the room, the drain cover would be moved and left exposing the open drain hole, creating both a safety concern and an unpleasant sight. There was also a noticeable unpleasant odor near the bathroom area. The room felt outdated, poorly maintained, and neglected rather than refreshed and ready for guests.
To make matters worse, live nightly music blared through the windows, making it nearly impossible to fall asleep. The noise carried well into the evening and the windows provided little to no sound insulation. After long travel days and excursions, rest should not be a luxury. Instead, sleep became another frustration during our stay.
The food and beverage experience was equally disappointing — if not worse. The food was not lukewarm; it was cold. We wanted to provide a fair assessment, so we intentionally arrived right when one of the restaurants opened to be first in line. The restaurant had literally just opened, and the food sitting out was already cold. That alone speaks volumes about food preparation and quality control.
Additionally, buffets did not replenish dishes as they neared closing time. Instead of refilling items, trays were simply left empty, leaving guests with very limited options — in some cases, only salad and fruit. The food itself lacked flavor entirely. It was bland, uninspired, and honestly just not good. For an all-inclusive resort, this was incredibly disappointing.
However, the most concerning part of the entire stay involved the dinner reservation system. I repeatedly attempted to book dinner reservations through the resort’s app and continuously received messages stating that all restaurants were fully booked — every single time.
Not satisfied with that response, I went in person to try to make a reservation. I was told that if I purchased an item from a specific menu, I could then be accommodated. I honestly could not believe what I was hearing. To test whether this was truly the case, I purchased the cheapest option available — two beers. Immediately after doing so, I was allowed into a restaurant that was nearly empty to enjoy dinner.
This experience was extremely disheartening. It felt like a clear money-making tactic designed to push guests into unnecessary purchases under the guise of being “fully booked.” For an all-inclusive resort, this practice feels unethical, misleading, and completely contradictory to what guests are promised when booking.
Additional frustrations included limited seating at the pool and beach, long elevator wait times, inconsistent service from staff, and a general lack of organization throughout the property.
Overall, Grand Oasis Palm significantly overpromises and underdelivers. Between the reservation confusion at arrival, dirty bedding, visible structural damage, maintenance concerns, cold and flavorless food, lack of buffet replenishment, disruptive nightly noise, and what felt like deceptive reservation practices, this was not the relaxing vacation experience we expected. I would not recommend this resort and would strongly encourage others to carefully consider alternative options before booking.
