Hotel La Scaletta Al Ponte Vecchio

We stayed with our family of five, two teens and an 11 year old - it was perfect. The location couldn’t have been better. Having been to Florence a few times we liked being on the other side of the Arno. Reception service was A+ they helped us find dinner spot the first night. The rooftop bar is also worth the stay, amazing views. The only negative was the tiny elevator and tons of stairs. Rooms were really nice - beautifully decorated. Bathrooms big enough and decent shower. Coffee in the room was nice. Location - if you stay, hit Gino’s bakery a block away and dinner in Santo Spirito area was awesome. Best gelato is at Sbrino. Only get the gelato from places with it in covered metal bins. So good.

I booked non refundable for 3 nights. On day 1 of arrival, I advised reception that I will check out a day early due to a national strike on day 3 that will cause disruption to my travel plans. They refused to refund me the last night.

Would recommend this hotel. It is in a great location near some major points of interest including the Ponte Vecchio, Palazzo Pitti, and a quick walk to the Uffizi museum. The room was very spacious with temperature control. If you're coming in late spring and summer, there will be mosquitos. But, that’s just the nature of the area and not something the hotel can control. The hotel does provide a plug in mosquito repellant. If there's not already on in your room, you can ask for one. The hotel front desk staff, particularly Emmanuel, were kind and helpful. The folks handling the breakfast buffet were also friendly and helpful. The hotel also has a rooftop bar with panoramic views.

The location of the hotel could not be better - easy walk across the Ponte Vecchio and into main part of the city. Just far enough from the crowd on the bridge but very close to the river. Florence is beautiful and so interesting. Street artists (painters) along the routes - and there are players in squares and piazzas every evening from folk singers to violinists to opera singers entertaining diners in many of the cafe/bars and restaurants all over town. Far better than Rome and yes I would go again for sure.

Only having three days there - not long enough. But we did spend the rest of the holiday with family members from other parts of the world in an old Italian farmhouse/villa in the Val D’Orcia (five bedrooms and swimming pool). So it was a two-part trip that ended in Florence. Did not take the hire car into Florence as the traffic/parking is a bit mad - dropped that off at the airport and took the T2 Tram right into the centre (25 mins and only a few euros). Very short taxi ride to the hotel from the tram stop at Santa Maria Novella station.
